Former Blizzard president argues that console model should continue

Known for having become a controversial figure in recent times, Mike Ybarra has publicly stated that disagrees with claims that consoles are destined to die. According to the former president of Blizzard and former vice president of Microsoft, this is a narrative that is being encouraged by companies that are failing.

In a message posted on X/Twitter, Ybarra said he believes it is still important to bet on exclusive titles to “dominate the living room.”Sony knows how to produce hits and how to pick other people’s hits to be exclusives. The former Blizzard president also stated that he does not believe that the model based on console sales will die or be replaced by PCs or multiplatform devices. “I believe some are pushing the narrative that suits them. Consoles will never die, in my opinion.”.

Former Blizzard president goes into the world of betting

Although he publicly maintained a good relationship with Microsoft and Xbox boss Phil Spencer, Ybarra was eventually fired by him after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard was finalized. Since then, he has been quite vocal on social media, sharing opinions that don’t always resonate very well.

In April of this year, he drew attention for suggesting that players could “tip” games they enjoyed more. However, the executive was criticized by many players who pointed out the fact that, in most cases, this extra money would go to publishers and not to the professionals who created an experience.

Ybarra also has both defended and criticized Microsoft’s cross-platform strategywhile stating that competition between it, PlayStation and Nintendo is essential for the market. Currently, the executive has moved away from the gaming segment and entered the world of betting, becoming the new CEO of PrizePicks.
