A Romanian consumer purchased an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU that turned out to be a fake, but very similar to the original. The processor was repurchased by overclocking expert “Der8auer“, who exposed some details so the public can identify the scam – in case it continues to happen.

The original buyer purchased the processor through OLX, but noticed something was wrong when he tried to test the PCB pads using a multimeter and got no results. After exposing the situation on social media, Der8auer purchased the hardware and demonstrated how to tell if the product is original or not with a new video.

One of the factors that the expert claims about the fake AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU is that the original models use an “adhesive glue” to secure the capacitors around the IHS. This is not present in non-X3D processors, but it was included in the line and shows that, if it is not there, you can immediately identify that something is wrong.

In addition, it shows several other factors that serve to make the public see problems in their purchase: lack of seal on the capacitors, different color (should be green, not blue), the package thickness is smaller (0.964mm instead of 1.308mm), low quality IHS design and also the wrong source and misaligned branding.

Fake AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU on the Market

According to Der8auer, the victim who purchased the AMD RYzen 7 7800X3D CPU and it turned out to be fake, purchased the product via OLX.

The platform does not allow users to return purchased items, but there are protections that allow the buyer to prove that the product is a fraud – ensuring that they will get their money back and that the seller will not receive any payment for the service.

However, this only applies to transactions within the platform. If you buy an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU or any other fake hardware outside of it (directly from the seller) – as many try to do to save money that they charge for the service – this can pose a risk to the consumer.

Brazilian websites such as Amazon, Americanas, Magazine Luiza, Casas Bahia and others that also operate as “marketplaces” also have their own rules for returns in the case of hardware or any fake product that you have purchased. If this happens to you, read the rules of each one to find out how to get your money back.
