After raising around US$18 billion in xAI’s investment round, Elon Musk wants to spend half of that money on NVIDIA B200 chips. According to the billionaire, owner of X and Tesla, the company will begin an integrated effort to improve the capabilities of X’s Grok Artificial Intelligence.
According to Elon Musk, the cluster of 100,000 H100 GPUs will come online “in the next few months”. After that, Musk will begin investing US$9 billion and purchasing around 300,000 B200 GPUs.
Musk made the comment about the NVIDIA B200 “Blackwell” after responding directly to the account Aravind Srinivas who started a poll about which would be the first company in the world with a cluster of 1 million H100 GPUs.
According to Elon Musk, it makes no sense to invest in 1 million H100 GPUs. Soon after, he commented: “The @xAI 100k H100 liquid-cooled training cluster will be online in a few months. The next big step would probably be around 300,000 CX8-networked B200s next summer“.

We emphasize that it’s one thing to make a comment on X (Twitter), it’s another completely different thing to actually invest in building a cluster with 300,000 B200 chips. So it’s better to understand the comment as just a possibility rather than a certainty.
NVIDIA could become the second most valuable company in the world, especially if projects like Project G-Assist succeed. For now, the company’s revenue was around US$30 billion in the last quarter. If Elon Musk really invests in 300,000 NVIDIA B200 chips, he will help boost such profits.
The project’s minimum investment would be US$9 billion, if Jensen Huang charges the lower value of the B200. On the other hand, if Musk and Huang do not reach a good deal, the value of 300,000 NVIDIA B200 chips could exceed US$12 billion.
It is still too early to know whether Musk will actually assemble a cluster of 300,000 B200 chips for xAI – the company responsible for X’s Grok AI. In any case, with the advancement of artificial intelligence, new investments in the sector are guaranteed.
