ECS announced this week its newest notebook, the UP42KP. The product’s biggest differentiator is the presence of an AMD Krackan Point APU, officially confirmed by the company before the official announcement of its manufacturer. This is the first device revealed in this way that confirms the new series of processors.

With just a few days left until CES 2025, it is no surprise that some companies “miss the start”. However, it is interesting to remember that AMD’s new Krackan Point series of affordable processors had not yet been officially confirmed, even though it is absolutely expected, due to the number of leaks.

In the description of the UP42KP notebook on the official ECS website, the company details that its Krackan Point APU features eight Zen 5c cores, RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics and an NPU capable of exceeding 40 TOPS – which could make this notebook a Copilot+ PC. The company also highlights that the APU operates between 15W and 54W TDP.

The text does not call the NPU by name, but from the description and other rumors we know that it is an XDNA2. In other details about the notebook, ECS details that the product features a 14” screen and DDR5-5600 memory, but does not specify the capacity.

ECS UP42KP Krackan Point APU could be a Ryzen AI 7 350

Of course, Krackan Point is the codename for AMD’s most affordable notebook processor series. The commercial name of these processors should bring them in line with the Ryzen AI 300 series. In the case of the ECS notebook, we are probably seeing the Ryzen AI 7 350.

According to the rumors we have had about Krackan Point so far, two APU models are expected. The Ryzen AI 7 350 with eight cores and the Ryzen AI 5 340 with six. Since ECS talked about the APU color count of its new notebook, we can speculate that it is the most advanced model.

It is worth mentioning that the two Krackan Point options will bring the same XDNA2 NPU with more than 40 TOPS. Thus, AMD likely intends to highlight AI as an important selling point in cheaper notebooks equipped with its APUs.
