It is possible to state that, since the discovery of the Meltdown and Spectre security flaws in 2018, Intel does not face a crisis as big as the one it is going through now with the instability problems in chips 13th and 14th generation Core.

The company’s image is being severely penalized by the extent of the flaw in its chips. Initially, it was said that it only affected processors from the K line, options unlocked for overclocking, but it has now been confirmed that it also covers options with a TDP of 65W, which massively expands the number of chips, including famous options such as the Core i5-14400F and the Core i5-13400F.

Many people who use Intel processors professionally are already looking for alternatives, this is the case of the team at Epic Games that deals with the Unrel Engine. In a post on his X account, the Unrel Engine supervisor, Dylan Brownand confirmed that machines that used chips Core i9-13900K e Core i9-14900K are experiencing failure rates above 50% in the last year.

Epic to migrate to AMD’s new “titan”

In some cases, the problems appeared as soon as the chips came out of the box and were installed in the PC, which corroborates the Intel’s official stance on a manufacturing issuerelated to oxidation, was responsible for affecting some 13th generation Core processors.

The alternative at Epic Games will be to migrate to AMD. To maintain a stable environment to continue working on the maintenance and improvement of Unrel Engine 5, the development team will migrate to AMD Ryzen 9 9950X16-core, 32-thread option, which will hit the market in August.

The Unrel Engine team uses about 20 computers. The Intel options that do not present any problems will continue to be used, while the others will be replaced by AMD processors.
