DRAM and NAND prices drop up to 17% due to low demand

The market price for DRAM and NAND memory chips is falling, in large part, due to a decrease in demand from buyers. The phenomenon was observed by the people at DRAMeXchange, who mention that 8Gb DDR4 1Gx8 chips had the biggest drop in the last month, 17.07%.

The recent price drop in memories is yet another movement in the “rollercoaster” that has been the value of NAND and DRAM, especially after the pandemic. As WCCFTech recalls, at the time prices were also falling due to low demand, which led to a stock correction and an attempt to regain the value of products.

Thus, since October last year, chip prices were on a slow and steady rise, but in August this year they fell again. Part of the reason is that inventory correction continues while demand for older products continues to fall.

With the DDR5 generation reaching more and more customers, DDR4 modules are less in demand. And these models still represent the largest volume of products in stores. Meanwhile, PC sales overall increased by just 4.4% last quarter, lower than previous estimates.

CUDIMM increases interest in DDR5 DRAM

Hardware enthusiasts who are able to invest in more advanced products are usually looking for the latest technology for new purchases. DDR5 DRAM modules, however, have an extra attraction, being able to offer CUDIMM models.

The technology, which integrates a clock controller directly into the DRAM component, has become popular for offering impressive memory speeds.

Meanwhile, those who still opt for DDR4 modules are generally people looking for products in the entry to mid-range segments. These customers are apparently in no rush to change their systems, and the hype that the industry is trying to generate around AI doesn’t seem to be helping.
