Although the price of RAM and SSDs has skyrocketed in recent months, Kingston claims that the situation is expected to worsen even further in the coming months. Therefore, the company recommends that those who need to make upgrades should open their wallets now, so as not to run the risk of having to spend even more in a short time.
In an interview with The Full Nerd Network, the company’s data center business manager, Cameron Crandall, explained the situation further. According to him, NAND memory prices have increased by 246% since the first fiscal quarter of this year.
According to him, 70% of this increase was recorded in the last 60 days alone, which makes it clear how serious the situation is. The Kingston employee explained that, as this component makes up 90% of the costs of an SSD, the company had no alternative but to readjust its prices for consumers.
The situation will get worse, warns Kingston
“I believe the best thing to do if you are thinking about improving your system is to do it now, and not wait, because prices will continue to rise.“, warned Crandall. According to him, Buying components will be more complicated in 30 daysand even more difficult in the 30 days after that break.

According to Kingston’s data center business manager, the situation is anomalous in the industry. He claims that he has been in the business for 29 years, and has never before seen such an aggressive price increase happen so quickly, with no signs that the situation will stabilize.
At the same time, he states that everything is part of a cycle and that, eventually, the values charged for SSDs and RAM memory should decrease. Even so, many manufacturers are showing reluctance to expand their production lines to meet the high demand, especially among companies dedicated to generative artificial intelligence.

During the interview, Crandall confirmed that Kingston has no intention of following in Micron’s footsteps. This means that, in addition to continuing to supply components for data centers, the company will also offer different products to ordinary consumers — but probably at higher prices than in the recent past.
