On several occasions, we have reported how the community likes to run Doom in many different ways. We have the case of a developer who ran Doom on a Lightning to HDMI adapter and even in a Word document.

However, now it wasn’t Doom and it wasn’t a game. Designer Gustavo Bonzanini created a SNES inside a pair of Nike Air Max 90 sneakers. The model is called AIR SNES and was created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the launch of the Super Nintendo in Japan.

The designer commented that he came up with the idea after observing collaborations between sneaker and video game brands. For him, it was strange that the sneakers looked like consoles but didn’t function as such. And then he decided to solve the problem.

The console tennis was created using a Raspberry Pi Zero W running the RetroPie emulator, which Bonzanini adapted to fit inside the shoe’s tongue. It has a battery life of up to 30 minutes of play and has an integrated HDMI port.

It’s enough for one race.

For the most nostalgic, it also has a small analog converter for RCA connectors. As for controls, the sneaker is compatible with an original SNES gamepad, but it is also possible to use an 8BitDo modification kit that connects to the Raspberry Pi wirelessly via Bluetooth.

And, in addition to creating the console, he also published what the promotional materials would be if it really were a product.

Nintendo’s position

The AIR SNES is a unique creation to celebrate 35 years of the Super Nintendo, this means that it will not be available for sale or in limited numbers. It is an artistic project by the designer to celebrate the console’s anniversary.

Furthermore, it is not yet known what Nintendo’s position is, which is known for suing those who abuse the rights it holds over its hardware (consoles) and software (games). So, it is hoped that the designer has no problems with Big N, but the fear in the air prevails.

For those who really want SNES classics, the official alternative (but with limitations) is a Nintendo Classics subscription, which gives access to classic Nintendo games on the Switch.

At Kabum, an OLED Switch costs R$ 1,859.07 (coming with the title Mario Bros Wonder and 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online subscription). The Nintendo Switch 2 costs R$4,184.07 or R$4,463.07 (with Mario Kart World).
