The hype for AI has resulted in a high demand for memory components that continues to increase the prices of DRAM modules. We now have reports that even after agreeing to a 50% increase in product prices for the last quarter of 2025, hyperscale data centers are only receiving 70% of their orders.
The problem, according to DigiTimes, would be affecting servers in both the USA and China. Apparently, not only would HBM memories be to blame for taking up all DRAM production capacity, but DDR5 RDIMM modules would also be on the rise.

Samsung readjusted its prices recently, confirming the change in priorities. SSDs for servers rose by 35% in value, while its RDIMM contracts saw a jump of up to 50%, due to high demand from its partners.
Prices for 16GB DDR5 modules (for order) were around US$7 and US$8, and have now jumped to US$13. But the rise in DRAM prices is not the only problem – even though companies are willing to pay, orders do not arrive. OEMs would be facing delivery fulfillment rates of between 35% to 40% only.

DRAM shortage could affect everyone by 2026
As even the world’s largest data center companies are having difficulty receiving their DRAM orders, smaller customers are falling further behind. According to the report, some of the lowest priority companies were placed on a waiting list to place orders only in 2026.

After months of DDR4 prices increasing until it was more expensive than DDR5, we are now seeing a slow reversal, with more people adopting the new technology. DDR5 prices started to increase and DDR4 prices gradually fell.

The problem is that if demand for DRAM continues as it is, we should see component shortages affect all segments of the market. Manufacturers must guarantee stock for the biggest buyers, while everyone else will have to fight for the leftovers.
