According to Videocardz, Dell published a press release confirming the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor option for its Alienware Area-51 gaming PCs. Everything suggests that the statement was released early, before 2026.
As the statement was not found on Dell’s official channels, it is possible that it was a press release sent to specialized websites. And there is a possibility that the communication was sent in advance of the date.
The new feature mentioned is the Area-51 desktop option with the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, expected to be available in early 2026. However, officially, the Area-51 desktop with Ryzen 7 9850X3D is scheduled for February 2026.
Furthermore, if Videocardz published an excerpt, NXT would have published the full text.

Area-51

The Area-51 series has returned as Alienware’s flagship full-tower model in its current design. The computers are built around an 80-liter chassis and with a shift to standardized, easy-to-maintain components.
Area-51 systems are already offered with Ryzen 9000X3D options and the upgrade was announced last month. With the upgrade, Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D configurations will be included. Alienware also offers these systems with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards in its current announcements.
In the words of the release, “this update delivers even more performance for gamers seeking the latest AAA titles at maximum settings, reinforcing Area-51’s position as a no-compromise platform built for the future.”
Ryzen 7 9850X3D

AMD has already mentioned the Ryzen 7 9850X3D on its official website, although retail availability and full positioning are still being determined ahead of CES, which takes place next week, January 6-9, 2026.
The 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 was not mentioned. Dell may not be planning to offer this CPU in its gaming systems or it may arrive later.
Other news
Dell is also bringing OLED technology to its Alienware gaming notebooks for the first time, solving one of the technology’s biggest problems. The panels feature premium anti-glare OLED, reducing surface glare by 32%.
Furthermore, even though there is a highlight for CES, Alienware’s biggest news should arrive at the end of 2026 with the expansion of its notebook portfolio into two completely new categories.

The first is a All-new ultra-thin gaming notebook, approximately 17 mm thick. Designed with a focus on performance density and design versatility, this system delivers exceptional gaming power in a chassis with nearly 50% smaller volume than the current 16-inch Area-51.

Another new feature is an entry-level gaming notebook, with the aim of attracting more players to the ecosystem. Built without compromising on essentials like cooling, build quality, or performance, the system delivers solid gaming capability at the brand’s most affordable price point to date.
