DDR4 comes to an end: Micron also officializes the closure of its production

Micron began issuing official statements that its DDR4 components came to the “end of life” (EOL – End of Life). Thus, the company will no longer produce components of this generation, and the stocks of these memories should decrease more and more in the coming months.

Micron joins Samsung and SK Hynix at the DDR4 production closure, something that has been planned since February to happen this year. With the three great interrupting their manufacture of memories, we can determine that the generation basically reached its end.

Even alternative options should get rarer and rarer. The Chinese giant of CXMT memories apparently also plans to end its production of DDR4 modules next year, and the company recently reached its maximum manufacturing capacity of the components.

DDR4 prices should continue to rise

Estimates point out that DDR4 prices have already rose 50% in the second half of May this year. While companies end their generation production cycle, demand does not seem to decrease, so the values ​​are to continue increasing.

Both in the case of companies offering new products as users trying to make household upgrades, Hype by IA has been seen as a reason for increasing the demand for memories. Increasing the capacity of the DDR4 -based system comes out cheaper than making a full upgrade to DDR5.

However, it is debatable until when it will really be cheaper this alternative. The old pattern has its values ​​increasing, while DDR5 modules should decrease the price with large manufacturers turning their production to the current generation.

Latest reservations should be reserved for larger customers

Micron will reserve much of its latest DDR4 and LPDDR4 -based supplies for some of its largest customers with large technology -based products. This is the case of the automotive, industrial sector, network applications, and so on.
