A Cyberpower presented an innovative cooling solution for PCs that uses Carbon nanotubes in place of the traditional thermal folder. The news comes through the Ice Paddeveloped by Carbice, and promises to retire the conventional thermal conduction method between processor and dissipator.

Ice pad is described as an alternative without dirt and maintenance -free, capable of creating a durable and efficient thermal interface. According to Carbice, its initial performance is equivalent to that of thermal folder, but with the advantage of improving over time rather than degrading.

How Ice Pad works

The secret is in vertically aligned carbon nanotubes engineering, invisible to the naked eye, which fill all microfissures between CPU and cooler. Combined with a thin layer of aluminum, they lead heat faster and more evenly, keeping temperatures lower and stable.

According to Dr. Baratunde Cola, founder and CEO of Carbice, technology has already been tested in extreme environments, such as in space and in high performance projects involving professional GPUS. Now it comes to the consumer market to offer high performance and reliability gamers.

Advantages about thermal paste

Cyberpower points out that, unlike the thermal folder, which can dry and lose efficiency, Ice Pad maintains its performance throughout the system’s life. This feature can reduce the need for maintenance and prevent periodic replacement of conductive material.

The launch also draws attention to the distribution model: Technology will initially be offered on Cyberpower -mounted PCs set up instead of sold separately. This raises questions about the complexity of the installation and if the product will be accessible to hardware enthusiasts who like to set up their own systems.

Another interesting point is the distinction between carbon nanotubes and graphene leaves, although both are derived from carbon and have high thermal conductivity. In the case of Ice Pad, the choice of tubes is due to its ability to fill microscopic irregularities more effectively.

Open Questions

Despite the promises, questions still have to be answered, such as the possibility of reuse of parts, ease of removal and reinstallation and comparing the maximum performance with the best thermal folders on the market.

If the results confirm what Cyberpower and Carbice say, the era of spreading thermal paste on the CPU may have its days numbered. For many enthusiasts, this would mean less dirt, less maintenance and more efficiency in the cooling of state -of -the -art processors.

Availability and price

CyberPower has not yet released an official date for the arrival of Ice Pad on the market, but the first PCs equipped with the technology are expected to be released in the coming months. Prices should vary according to machine configuration, but input models are expected to cost more than conventional systems due to investment in thermal innovation.
