CORSAIR has finally released a new BIOS for the Vengeance i8200, an update that users have been asking for for a while now. The new file is BIOS 9059 and includes Intel microcode 0x12Fthe same level of microcode that owners have been waiting for for months.

What’s hard to ignore is that this would probably still be a problem if Matt’s Computer Services hadn’t brought the issue to their attention. The channel documented a recurring failure pattern on the same i8200with several Core i9-14900K chips failing in less than a year.

They also showed how the system began to behave like a classic case of Raptor Lake instability: game crashes, shader preload failures, and even driver installations failing with CRC errors. Errors that disappeared when the processor was changed.

This wasn’t a mysterious hardware problem. CORSAIR is using an official ASUS motherboard, the PRIME Z790-P WiFi, but with a CORSAIR OEM BIOS installed. It appears that the OEM firmware was the main reason for the system crash.

ASUS motherboards sold at retail received newer microcode through normal BIOS updates a long time ago. Meanwhile, the i8200’s OEM BIOS was outdated and also prevented the ASUS stock firmware from installing.

The motherboard is original, but the firmware path is not the same as a full version sold at retail. Therefore, owners were left with no option but to wait for CORSAIR to package and publish the update.

Who was to blame?

It’s difficult to understand the delay and the answer depends on how CORSAIR and ASUS divide responsibilities. If CORSAIR is responsible for validation and release, then CORSAIR blocked the update.

Although, if ASUS needs to provide a signed OEM image or a locked version, then ASUS may have been responsible. Either way, the end result looked bad because the fix already existed in the retail channel and i8200 owners were blocked from receiving it.

The Corsair Vengeance i8200 is not available in Brazil and those interested should be ready to spend something in the range of US$4,799.99 (R$26,636.58) to purchase one.
