Different clues continue to point to NVIDIA’s next “Blackwell”-based GPUs. This time it was Cooler Master’s turn to reveal the graphics cards supported by its new power supply, listed the GeForce RTX 5090 alongside the RTX 4090.

The Cooler Master X Silent Edge Platinum 850 Fanless power supply, which is already on sale abroad, has a 12VHPWR PCIe 5.1 cable, with 450w power, enough to power an entire system plus an RTX 4090 and, apparently, an RTX 5090 as well.

However, if we consider another recent leak, also involving another power supply manufacturer, Seasonic, the alleged top-of-the-line NVIDIA Blackwell GPU would require even more than 450W via the 16-pin connection, as it appears with a TDP of 500W. This, of course, can be solved with two connections on the video card.

Other GeForce RTX 5090 rumors

According to another rumor, the top-of-the-line Blackwell GPU would have a maximum frequency of 2.9 GHz, about 700 MHz compared to the RTX 4090. Considering that many models allow overclocking, it won’t be hard to see it breaking the 3 GHz barrier.

The GB202 GPU, which should equip the GeForce RTX 5090, could arrive with 24,579 cores, 33% more than the AD102, chip that equips the RTX 4090, which has 16,384 CUDA cores. This difference could lead NVIDIA’s next top-of-the-line GPU to outperform the current strongest by somewhere between 50 and 70%.

Another issue that will contribute to this performance increase is the memory technology used. According to rumors, the card may have 16 GDDR7 memory modules and, believe it or not, a 512-bit interface, a number that we haven’t seen in a gaming GPU for a long time. In addition, the video card will have a design with 3 different PCB parts.

Unlike the RTX 4090, which has a memory module layout divided into 3/4/1/4 (clockwise around the GPU), totaling 12 GDDR6X modules, the alleged GeForce RTX 5090 will have 4/5/2/5, totaling 16 modules, but with the new GDDR7 memories.

Considering that the top-of-the-line GeForce Blackwell GPU uses all of these memory slots, with 2 GB modules just like the RTX 4090, the graphics card would deliver a total of 32 GB of VRAM.

NVIDIA is expected to unveil the GeForce RTX 5090 and the rest of its Blackwell-based GPU lineup at CES 2025, which takes place in early January.
