The codename for a still distant generation of Intel x86 cores may be Cobra Core. That’s according to the profile of one of the company’s employees, who mentioned the technology and was discovered by the folks at Gamma0Burst. In theory, the generation should appear after the Royal Core.

To better understand the names and codenames, we are currently close to the launch of the Arrow Lake series of processors. They are commercially known as Intel Core 200 and use Lion Cove cores. The next generation is expected to be Nova Lake, which will debut Royal Core cores. Below is a list organized by VideoCardz – remembering that much of this information is not yet official:

  • Arrow Lake – Lion Cove
  • Nova Lake – Royal Core 1.0
  • Beast Lake – Royal Core 1.1
  • Beast Lake Next – Royal Core 2.0
  • ??? Lake – Cobra Core

Supposedly, the Royal Core (or Royal Cove) will mark the debut of the Rentable Units, abandoning hyper-threading in the generation. Its next version would introduce a new version of hyper-threading, dividing the P-cores in two, and then the Royal Core 2.0 will take the process further, dividing these cores into up to four threads.

The rumors, however, are still early in their cycle and seem to have very little basis, so more skepticism than usual is recommended in this case. Even more so with rumors from other sources indicating that Intel has already given up on Beast Lake Next.

Intel Cobra Core is still far away

Only after this entire cycle of launches would Intel bring out the Cobra Core. According to Gamma0Burst, both the Royal and Cobra Cores would have a special focus on energy efficiency and high performance for x86 processors.

It’s obvious that any company wants better efficiency and performance across all of its products, but the information seems to indicate that Intel wants to deliver individual cores that are better than its competitors in both aspects.

Finally, it is worth remembering that even if the information is correct, there is nothing stopping Intel from changing its mind over the next few years. Even more so if the company needs to make further changes to reestablish itself in the market.
