On Wednesday (18), many users began reporting that they were able to access X, formerly Twitter, on their smartphones. This access was random and the explanation only came at night with an official statement from the social network.

The post, made on the Global Government Affairs profile, explained the reason for the inappropriate access and Anatel has already taken steps to ensure that it was closed once and for all. Understand.

Reason for the restoration of X in Brazil

The post was made last night (18) on X itself, and reveals that when the platform was banned in Brazil, it made the infrastructure to provide the service to Latin America inaccessible to the company itself, and so they had to change the network operator.

Post translation:

When X went down in Brazil, our infrastructure to provide service to Latin America was no longer accessible to our team. In order to continue providing optimal service to our users, we changed network providers. This change resulted in an inadvertent and temporary service restoration for Brazilian users.

While we expect the platform to be inaccessible again soon, we continue our efforts to work with the Brazilian government to ensure that it returns to the Brazilian people as soon as possible.

Cloudflare declares support for government and will block X

It was also discovered that this access occurred after replacing X’s traditional IP using some solutions from the company Cloudflare, which works more or less like a reverse proxy and causes the addresses of the websites hosted on its platform to change constantly. To understand more about this reverse proxy, check out our article explaining it in detail, by clicking here.

This type of service ends up making it even more difficult to suspend X in Brazil and blocking all of Cloudflare is unfeasible as it would end up affecting other services that are part of the infrastructure.

Thus, Anatel ended up contacting Cloudflare to resolve this impasse and obtained the platform’s support to block X in Brazil by closing a “loophole” used by Elon Musk’s company.

Cloudflare was able to identify and isolate only the traffic used by X here, ensuring that the blocking continues without affecting other sites and services.
