A recent analysis released by the Yole Group market and technology company places China as the world’s largest chip manufacturer by 2030. The company estimates that the country will not only overcome Taiwan over the next 5 years, but also create a large advantage against others.
The information is released by Digittimes. According to the newspaper, citing the Yole Group report, in the last year Taiwan was the largest semiconductor producer in the world, with a 23%slice. China appears secondly behind, with 21%, and South Korea then 19%.
The United States, which is currently trying to stop China’s technological progress through commercial blockages, appears in fifth position in the ranking, with 10% of production. Japan that is in fourth with 13%.
The projection is that China continues to increase its slice until it reaches 30% over the next 5 years. This would leave the country not only at the top of chip production, but also a little ahead of Taiwan.
Commercial blockages encourage national investments in China
The heavy investments have long been reported that China has done internally to seek self -sufficiency and rely less on technology imports – increasingly difficult due to US influence.
The country reached a production of 8.85 million wafers for chips a month last year, an increase of 15% compared to 2023. The projection is that this number reaches 10.1 million later this year, and 18 new factories are already under construction in the territory.
It is interesting to mention that the largest demand for chips in the Asian country is in the manufacture of mature processes. The country’s main factory, SMIC, recently reached the 6nm process in its production, while TSMC already delivers 2NM.
