Chieftec announced this week its new Vega power supply series. There are two different capacity options, with an 80 Plus Gold efficiency seal and a focus on “price for performance”, according to the manufacturer. The two versions of the PSU are in ATX 3.1 format, featuring a native 16-pin connector for PCIe Gen 5.
As cost-benefit products, Vega sources have certain limitations, such as the lack of modularity being one of them. On the other hand, Chieftec highlights that PSUs have especially long cables, which can help in large builds. The 16-pin connector for PCIe 5, for example, is 60cm long.
The sources also come with modern fans, with fluid dynamic bearing (FDB). The fans measure 135mm and this type of bearing should help reduce noise, but Chieftec did not offer data in this regard.
As mentioned, the sources have the 80 Plus Gold energy efficiency seal, and the manufacturer chose not to undergo Cybenetics certification. Still, we have active PFC and all the most popular security technologies for PSUs. Chieftec also offers a 24-month warranty for its products.
Price and availability of Chieftec Vega power supplies
The new series of power supplies from Chieftec is now available in Europe, in options with 750W and 850W capacity. Check out the product codes below, accompanied by their prices:
- PPG-750-S: € 89,90 (R$ 567)
- PPG-850-S: € 99,90 (R$ 630)
For comparative criteria, it is worth remembering the Predator GX850, Acer’s first power supply. The ATX 3.0 product appeared in September, for prices close to R$800, after conversion. Acer’s PSU, however, is modular and comes with a 12VHPWR connector.
