After more than 7 years on the market, the Switch finally gets an official charging station for its controllers, the Joy-Con! It turns out that Nintendo has just revealed the accessory, which promises to be very useful for those who like to play with friends and family.

A helping hand for those who play in doubles

Nintendo’s new Joy-Con charging station will allow players to charge two Joy-Con controllers directly in the dock while charging the other two through the console itself.

This feature is especially useful for those who like to play in pairs, whether with family or friends, thus ensuring that at least one pair of controllers is always charged and ready for action.

Additionally, the charging station is compatible with NES retro wireless gamepads, primarily used with Nintendo Switch Online games, bringing even more versatility to the accessory.

Nintendo’s Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) is powered by the Switch dock via USB-C, but can also be used with any other power adapter. The accessory’s vertical stand can be removed to make it more portable, making it easy to take with you to game nights with friends.

While Nintendo has yet to release pricing information, it is confirmed to launch in the US, Europe, and Japan.

Charger arrives alongside new game releases

The launch of the charging station coincides with the launch of Super Mario Party Jamboree on October 17, meaning it joins forces between the arrival of the new accessory and one of the most anticipated games for the console, especially for Super Mario fans.

The idea seems to be to take advantage of this simultaneous launch to encourage players to buy both products, further improving the gaming experience.

Switch saying goodbye in style

It’s interesting to note that this accessory is being released more than 2,785 days after the original launch of the Nintendo Switch. With rumors of a new version of the console, possibly called the Switch 2, circulating for a release early next year, some may question whether Nintendo wouldn’t have benefited more from releasing this accessory six or seven years ago. However, as the saying goes, better late than never.

This charging station could mark the last holiday season for the Nintendo Switch as we know it. With a new Legend of Zelda game launching on September 26, accompanied by a themed console, and another big title, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, arriving on November 7, Nintendo appears to be setting the stage for a memorable farewell to the Switch ahead of the arrival of its next generation of consoles.
