Black Myth: Wukong is the second most played game

The highly anticipated Black Myth: Wukong, an action RPG developed by Game Science and inspired by the rich Chinese mythology, has made a memorable debut on Steam.

Exceeding expectations, the game has already broken records and established itself as one of the most played titles on the platform, currently in 2nd place and surpassing great hits such as Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077 and even the legendary Dota 2.

A new milestone on Steam

Within hours of its release, Black Myth: Wukong achieved an impressive feat: it became the most played single-player game of all time on Steam.

At the moment, the title occupies the second position among the most played games in the history of the platform, behind only PUBG: Battlegrounds and surpassing giants such as Palworld, Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 in terms of peak simultaneous players.

Since its arrival on the market, Black Myth: Wukong has registered a peak of 3,257,248 simultaneous players at the time of this article’s publication, a number that surpasses the historical peaks of other acclaimed titles.

For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 peaked at 1,054,388 concurrent players, while Elden Ring reached 953,426. Even Palworld, which was a huge milestone across multiple platforms, saw its peak of 2,101,867 surpassed.

One of the factors that has driven the success of Black Myth: Wukong is the huge interest from the Chinese market. According to Simon Carless, founder of GameDiscoverCo, around 88% of the game’s players on Steam are from China.

This data reflects the importance of the title not just as a game, but as a cultural phenomenon that resonates deeply with Chinese audiences, thanks to its roots in local mythology.

Black Myth: Wukong is coming to Xbox soon

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology, particularly the classic tale “Journey to the West.” In the game, players take on the role of the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, and embark on an epic journey filled with intense combat, facing mythological creatures and gigantic bosses.

With a fluid and challenging combat system, the game combines elements of exploration, magic and transformation, allowing the protagonist to assume different forms and abilities.

The game is developed by Game Science and was released last night for PS5 and PC. However, the game will also be coming to Xbox soon, although there is no set date yet, as the studio is still optimizing the version to reach the expected quality standards.

With such an impressive start, Black Myth: Wukong has the potential to continue dominating Steam and setting new standards for mythology-inspired action games. It also currently has a Metacritic score of 82.
