One of the concerns related to Black Myth: Wukong was the possibility of the game causing crashes on 13th and 14th generation Intel processors, which are known for facing problems in games made with Unreal Engine 5. The game ended up being released after the patch that helps mitigate the problem, but the devs at Game Science decided to warn players anyway.

Currently, a dev who goes by the name 散养键术大师 (Free Range Key Techinque Master) has a pinned post on the game’s Steam thread. In his post, he states that “some players” have reported issues with Black Myth: Wukong on Raptor Lake-based CPUs, so he offers suggestions on how to work around the bugs.

Before we get into the tips, it’s worth mentioning a caveat made by the folks at Tom’s Hardware. It’s not known how many users are reporting issues and whether these people have their boards updated with Intel’s new microcode. So it’s important to first make sure you have the BIOS updated if you’re a user of these processors. The site mentions that it hasn’t had any bugs with the game yet on its Raptor Lake systems.

More about Black Myth: Wukong:

Returning to the dev’s tips, we have two simple instructions. The first is to underclock the CPU, as you would expect. The second is to choose to skip shader compilation in the options, because it is during this process that some users have reported bugs. However, the dev does not guarantee that this will avoid problems with processor voltage, nor that Black Myth will run satisfactorily with the option turned off.

Although some users are experiencing performance issues with the game, Black Myth: Wukong debuted today (the 20th) with immense success. The title is already the best-selling on Steam, and has achieved the title of the biggest single-player game ever released on the platform. And a large part of this number represents the weight of Chinese players:

Speaking of BIOS updates for boards with 13th and 14th generation Intel processors, it’s worth remembering that GPUs have also received updates in recent days specifically geared towards Black Myth. Both Nvidia and AMD have made new drivers available, and even Intel has prepared its Arc GPUs for the game.
