A Black Friday is increasingly consolidated as a strategic moment for Brazilians. According to a survey carried out by Mercado Pago, the digital bank of the Mercado Livre Group, 87% of Brazilians said they intend to anticipate Christmas shopping during the date, taking advantage of the discounts on the date. The study, which had more than 21 thousand respondents in the first half of November, also revealed that more than half of consumers (54%) intend to allocate part of their 13th salary to these purchases.
The survey is part of the project Meli Trendswhich includes information bulletins with insights from the Grupo Mercado Livre ecosystem, as a thermometer of consumption behavior on Black Friday, which began with the study “Panorama do Consumo da Black Friday 2024”, and which will also bring new information about the retail date on November 28th and 29th.
According to the study, Brazilians intend to anticipate Christmas shopping, and 33% expect to invest up to R$500, while 24% plan to pay up to R$1,000. There are still 21% who plan to allocate up to R$2,000. The data shows a behavior aimed at more planned purchases with good discounts this year-end.
“Consumers are demonstrating more strategic behavior, taking advantage of Black Friday to anticipate Christmas shopping. The combination of attractive discounts with the arrival of the 13th boosts this movement, as it generates greater purchasing power for Brazilians”, says Pethra Ferraz, Vice President of Marketing at Mercado Pago for Latin America.
Using your 13th salary for Black Friday shopping
Among the 54% of respondents who will allocate part of this benefit on Black Friday2 in 10 of those interviewed (21%) intend to allocate 10% to 30% of the benefit shopping.
Among the most searched categories by consumers are as follows:
- Moda (mentioned by 27% of respondents) appears as the leader in purchasing intention.
- In second place, there is a tie between supermarket items (23%) and household items, furniture and decoration, both mentioned by 23% of those interviewed.
- Next come household appliances, a category chosen by 22% of respondents. Furthermore, the research shows that the destination of the 13th salary demonstrates financial behavior that has undergone planning: while 23% intend to save or invest the amount e 28% should use it to organize their budget.
