The new Apple chip M3 Ultra demonstrated superior performance in benchmark tests, registering up to 29% more speed in multiple nuclei compared to M2 Ultra. The processor has also made significant advances in efficiency and processing capacity, consolidating as the most powerful of the Apple Silicon line so far.

The Apple M3 Ultra has recently been identified in Geekbench 6 tests, revealing that the new generation of the processor maintains considerable performance leadership about its predecessor, the M2 Ultra. The chip got a 27,749 score in the multi-core test, exceeding 29% the previous version.

Although the results are impressive, the M3 Ultra is not so far away from M4 Max, a model that offers a difference of only 7% in the multi-core category. The M4 Max, on the other hand, stands out in single-core performance, surpassing the M3 Ultra by 20.5%.

M3 Ultra Technical Specifications em Benchmark

Apple’s new processor was tested on the Mac Studio identified as MAC15,14. The chip has 32 nuclei divided between 24 high performance and 8 efficiency. The unified memory is 256GB, and the maximum frequency recorded was 4.05GHz.

In single-core tests, the M3 Ultra reached 3,221 points, a 13% higher performance than M2 Ultra. However, the M4 Max was more efficient in this regard, reaching a 20.5% gain in the same test.

ARM Technology and Enhanced Efficiency

What is noteworthy is that, despite the minimum frequency difference between processors (the M3 Ultra operates at 4.05GHz and the M4 Max at 4.14GHz), M4 Max’s single-core performance is superior. This can be attributed to support to the extent scalable matrix Extension (SME), technology that improves processing efficiency in complex loads.

Although the M3 Ultra positions itself as the most powerful Apple Silicon ever released, its advantage over the M4 Max is not so expressive. The performance of each chip varies as needed, and the choice between models will depend on the required application and workload type.
