The well-known North American company Boston Dynamics shared a new video that is part of the constant public updates that the company makes to demonstrate the new capabilities of its robots. The video this time shows the robot Atlas doing push-ups. Watch below:
The new Atlas
Unveiled in April, the new version of the Atlas humanoid surpasses the first model, announced in 2013. Among the advances in terms of features, the new Atlas is stronger and its range of movement surpasses the previous version. Another important change is that the first version was hydraulic, while the new Atlas is 100% electric.
Atlas combines printed parts made of titanium and aluminum. The robot measures 1.5 meters and weighs 89 kg. According to Boston Dynamics on its website“We used Atlas to explore the potential of the humanoid form factor, leveraging the robot’s entire body for graceful, fast, and dexterous movement. The Atlas demonstrates our efforts to develop the next generation of robots with the mobility, perception, and intelligence needed to become commonplace in our lives”.
Other companies, such as Tesla, are also dabbling in the field of humanoid robots. Optimus, from Elon Musk’s company, promises to be a nanny of the future.
The progress for Atlas to leave the Boston Dynamics testing environment, which belongs to the brand Hyundai since 2020, and reaching the market will still take some time, but the company continues to make significant progress in development. According to the company, 66% of the development flow has already been achieved, and the expectation is that the machine will be available for industrial use in the near future.
