Just over a year after purchasing Intellivision, one of Atari’s historical rivals, the current incarnation of the company revealed this Friday (17) the launch of Sprint. Developed in partnership with the publisher Plaion, the new console will combine the developer’s old catalog with some modern features found in more recent devices.
In practice, the device will work in a very similar way to recent re-releases of the Atari 2600. It will feature a housing that reproduces the look of the original Intellivision, complete with a control that looks like a remote control. However, it will now connect to TVs via an HDMI connection.
Additionally, the pair of controls that come with the Intellivision Sprint will no longer require players to stay close to the screen, as was the case on the original console. That’s because they now work completely wirelesslyonly needing to be docked to the console to be recharged.
Intellivision Sprint promises renewed controls
Another element that was kept from the original console model are the small cards that must be inserted into the upper part of its controls. They serve as a kind of guide that explains what each function of the “remote control” does.. According to Atari, the cards have been updated to give players more useful instructions.
The company also stated that the Intellivision Sprint will not work with cartridges, but with a selection of 45 games present in its memory. The catalog includes some platform hits that are not exactly known to more recent generations, such as Boulder Dash and Astromash.

Additionally, the console will feature a wide selection of sports games such as Auto Racing, as well as action titles including Armor Battle and Sea Battle. According to Atari, buyers will be able to use a USB-A connection to add more titles to the platform in the future, as well as to use different types of controls.
A company claims that, in the United States, the retro console arrives on December 5th this year, for the suggested price of US$149.99or just over R$810. Interestingly, the device will make its debut before the Amico, which had so many problems in its development that it lost the right to use the name that marked the history of the gaming world.
