The classic Atari 7800 will return to the market as “Atari 7800+”, a retro console with HDMI output made for those who are passionate about classic games released in the 80s – the time when the original was launched to compete with the new Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

The new console is a recreation of the old design, maintaining compatibility with physical cartridges and bringing some new features seen in the most recent models – such as a wireless version of its iconic controller. The box describes that the version will also come with the game Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest.

The Atari 7800+ will retail for $129.99 and is slightly smaller than the original version, released in 1986. Considering that finding an old, original console in good condition today can be quite expensive – due to the collector’s market – the manufacturer is investing in attracting the public with options that are cheaper and have more features.

Atari also knows what will really appeal to fans of the old consoles, keeping some of the same visuals seen on the old one – its black chrome casing and rainbow stripe on the top will fool many gamers into thinking they’re looking at the same old console.

With HDMI output, the new Atari 7800+ will allow you to play your classic cartridges in 720p resolution. Considering that the old ones required adapters to work properly on modern monitors or TVs, not even reaching this quality, it is an advantage within the entire experience.

Games produced for Atari 7800+

To boost sales of the Atari 7800+, a new production of cartridges is also coming out of the oven in the gaming industry. Among them, titles such as Asteroids Deluxe, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, Space Duel and the version of Berzerk for the console will once again be available on physical media.

Another interesting aspect is that your CX78+ controller will come with a DB9 to USB-C adapter – allowing you to use the controller in your PC games as well. It is not recommended to use it in newer Steam games, for example, but it helps when you try some emulators on your computer.

Additionally, the Atari 7800+ CX78+ will also allow you to remove the D-pad stick – allowing for a less uncomfortable experience if it becomes annoying after an extended period of gameplay.
