ASUS took advantage of its presence at Computex 2024 to bring its next motherboard, the ROG Maximus Z890 HERO BTF – with LGA-1851 socket that supports Intel Arrow Lake-S CPUs. One of the main attractions of the “BTF” line is that its connectors are located on the back of the mainboard, helping with cable organization and management.

Among the features available in the hardware, its quadruple slot design for DDR5 DIMM, support for PCIe 5.0 and M.2 Gen5 was also announced – apart from the large heatsink covering the PCB and the face plates that enhance the look of the ROG Maximus Z890 HERO BTF .

In terms of appearance, ASUS brings an IO board with “ROG Maximus” written in gigantic letters and with the support of RGB LEDs. On the heatsink, you can also see the iconic ROG “eye” logo on the PCH.

ASUS mainboard connectors

As mentioned above, what draws the most attention to the ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 HERO BTF mainboard are the connectors strategically located in the hardware. While we see the power cables being connected on the side – with two 8-pin inputs for the CPU, the others go to the rear area.

There you can find the new 12V-2×6 connector that supplies power to the GC-HPWR, limiting the use of video cards, but completely eliminating the need for 16-pin connectors. The ROG Maximus Z890 HERO will also be made available in a “Non-BTF” version, with both launching sometime in 2024.

More options for ROG Maximus Z790 HERO

In addition, ASUS is also releasing a new version of the ROG Maximus Z790 HERO, with a CAMM2 solution. The motherboard will come with a connector compatible with the format, being demonstrated with Kingston Fury Renegade DDR5 memory with 48 GB of memory clocked at a speed of 8,000 MT/s.

What is most impressive is that it does not use any cooling solution, running its activities at 41ºC – which is an impressive result, by the way.

ASUS states that more of these conceptual products will be released to the market in limited quantities – although the CAMM2 format already has a strong hope that it will enter full industry adoption in the near future.
