The NUC 14 Essential is the latest update to the NUC 14 family, possibly the last before ASUS moves on to the NUC 15 series. This mini-PC comes with an Nx5x Alder Lake-N Refresh and establishes itself as an entry-level model.
Measuring 135x115x36mm, a 0.56-liter chassis, and weighing just 480g, it is not a gaming system and is designed for business environments where performance is not as important as low power consumption and quiet operation.
The new model offers the lowest specifications and most basic features. The Alder Lake-N Refresh series features a low-power architecture with no performance cores and only efficient cores. According to the ASUS page, the NUC 14 Essential will come with four CPU configurations:
- Intel N97 (4C/4T, TDP 12W)
- Intel N150 (4C/4T, 6MB Cache, 3.6 GHz, TDP 6W)
- Intel N250 (4C/4T, 6MB Cache, 3.8 GHz, TDP 6W)
- Intel Core 3 N355 (8C/8T?, 6MB Cache, 3.9 GHz, TDP 15W)
The system supports up to three 4K displays, has a USB Type-C connector that is not USB 4 or Thunderbolt 4, and supports DisplayPort. It includes three USB Type-A ports and one USB 2.0 port. Monitors can be connected via DisplayPort or HDMI.
NUC Series
ASUS took over Intel’s NUC (Next Unit of Compute) business group and is now responsible for developing these compact systems. Recently, the company celebrated its first anniversary of acquiring the rights to the NUC series.
And while most users recognize the NUC as a mini-PC, the lineup also encompasses laptops, but ASUS has yet to release a NUC laptop. With the new launch, there are now six products in the NUC 14 series:
- ROG NUC: até Core Ultra 9 185H Meteor Lake, RTX 4060/4070 dGPU
- NUC 14 Performance: até Core Ultra 9 185H Meteor Lake, RTX 4060/4070 dGPU
- NUC 14 Pro+: up to Core Ultra 9 185H Meteor Lake
- NUC 14 Pro: até Core Ultra 165H Meteor Lake
- NUC 14 PRO AI: Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake
- NUC 14 Essential: (Core) Nx5x Alder Lake-N Refresh
Now, this NUNC generation encompasses three different architectures: Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake, and Alder Lake-N. ASUS has not yet confirmed prices.
