ASUS launches its first NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with GDDR6 memory

ASUS has announced the launch of its first NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU variant, which uses GDDR6 memory instead of the traditional ones that come with GDDR6X.

Although there are GDDR6 memories with 21 Gbps speeds on the market, NVIDIA and manufacturers have chosen to follow the 20 Gbps standard to avoid making the option more expensive. It is the same one that AMD uses in its RDNA 3 video cards, in comparative terms.

While the reduction in memory bandwidth is a concern, ASUS has spared no effort to bring the highest possible performance to its DUAL RTX 4070 GDDR6 EVO GPU – which launches with a maximum boost of 2,475 MHz, while the “OC” version tops out at 2,520 MHz.

With the launch, the manufacturer becomes NVIDIA’s first AIC partner to bring the variant with the use of “non-X” memory. The original model contained GDDR6X with 12GB and speed of 21 Gbps – reaching up to 504 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The ASUS model brings the following specifications for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with 12GB GDDR6 memory: the AD104-251 GPU with 5,888 CUDA cores will be used and will remain linked to the 192-bit bus interface. The variant will have 5% less bandwidth, with 480 GB/s instead of 504 GB/s.

It’s important to note that ASUS was one of the only manufacturers to launch the new variant of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU specifying on the box that it is a GDDR6 version.

The others that announced similar models, such as Palit, ZOTAC and Gainward, do not have this information highlighted on the box – leaving the public confused and leading them to buy a product different from what they imagined.

Taking into account that in the tech industry NVIDIA will not stop production of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs with GDDR6X, the consumer may end up buying one of the hardware without knowing which one they are taking home – which is a problem.
