A ASUS confirmed a new version for your gaming handheld, the ROG Ally. Instead of a complete successor to the first, this new device, called ROG Ally X, focuses on correcting several problems with the original. We can say that now the first ROG Ally has its “definitive version”.
ROG Ally X promises 40% more battery life
Among the highlights of the ROG Ally X is the issue of battery life. The device promises 40% more usage time on a charge when compared to the ROG Ally. “We think about battery, storage, graphics and memory, ports… our goal is to include as many improvements as possible in a device like this“, declared Shawn Yen, senior vice president at ASUS.
The processor remains the same, the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, and the screen is also 7 inches.
Support for NVMe M.2 2280 SSD
ASUS also confirmed that the ROG Ally X supports M.2 2280 NVMe storage drives, which can be installed via a slot on the side. The ROG Ally has a 2230 slot.
Increase in RAM too
ASUS has not yet revealed all the details about the specifications of the ROG Ally X, but it is official that the device will also have more RAM than the Ally, equipped with 16 GB LPDDR5-6400. ASUS also changed the positioning of the microSD card reader, moving it away from the ventilation holes, reducing the possibility of the cards heating up, a recurring complaint with the ROG Ally.
The company also says that the console will be more easily repairable, and the joysticks will be more interchangeable.
Price and availability
The ROG Ally X will be released in the second half of 2024. The price has not yet been revealed.
