ASUS has made an update of BIOS that changes the power limit on Rog Astral. The new BIOS is dated from March 14 and raises the maximum TGP to 450W. This means that while RTX 5080 usually has a standard 360W limit, users can now adjust this limit even more, reaching 450W.
Rog Astral RTX 5080 stands out as one of the most powerful RTX 5080 plates on the market. This model was launched with a standard consumption of 400W, higher than any other RTX 5080 available. However, unlike other versions, this board could not be modified to withstand an even greater power limit.

OVERCLOCKING COMPARISON
Previously there was no option to change the power limit. However, there were already plates that supported 450W, such as the RTX 5080 Gigabyte gaming. Despite Gigabyte’s unlocked limit, equivalent to the RTX 4090 power level, performance gains reached only a 2% increase with additional 90W.
In other words, even with the possibility of raising the Rog Astral RTX 5080 TGP, there may be no strong reason to increase power consumption, given the limited performance gains.
Overclocking works basically the same way as in previous Nvidia Geforce video cards. However, with the Blackwell series, Nvidia has removed the “Hot Spot” sensor, but the user still has access to “GPU temperature” and “memory temperature” by the system.
About Hot Spot
There has always been a certain drama around Hot Spot. However, his withdrawal by Nvidia makes it difficult to diagnose a misaligned cooler or Waterblock. The problem gets worse with the fear of the RTX 50 connectors melt. However, Nvidia has promised that the problem has been solved and will not be repeated even with the 50 Series Places pulling 575W.
Hot Spot was not a single sensor, but a method of reporting the highest temperature throughout the GPU matrix and multiple sensors. It is possible that the resource will return in some way in the future, but for now there is no way to access this data through the NVIDIA API.
Nvidia is investing heavily in the Blackwell series, with the production of chips following in full swing since last year. Unfortunately, for the company, the offer was well below the demand with signs running out in various places.
