Polish technology site PCEkspert has photographed socket LG1851 motherboards based on Intel’s mid-range B860 chipset. On the eve of the launch in January next year, the items are arriving at retailers.

One of the first boards identified is signed by Asus and is the ROG Strix B860-A Gaming WiFi. Based on the leak, it comes with a white PCB complemented by components in white, silver or chrome, with black accents for elegant contrast. .

The board is aimed at the gamer audience and the style follows the trend of Strix-A motherboards from previous generations, adapted for light color and personalized configurations.

Chipset B860

The B860 chipset determines its capabilities and positions it as a “mid-range” alternative. Regarding the Z890, there are some limitations, such as the lack of support for CPU overclocking.

It is possible to overclock the memory, but it has fewer PCIe lines, as well as a DMI 4.0 bus limited to 4 lanes. On the Z890 and H870 there are 8 lanes.

The VRM has 14 phases, and the card comes with an M.2 NVMe Gen 5 slot connected directly to the processor, which allows it not to interfere with the PCIe x16 slot dedicated to the graphics card. There are also three M.2 NVMe Gen 4 slots, two of which are connected to the chipset (PCH) and one to the CPU.

In terms of networking, the card offers a 2.5GbE wired and Wi-Fi 7 wireless connection, while the audio system is based on a mid-range codec, Realtek ALC1200 or ALC4080.

The official launch of B860 motherboards should coincide with that of Intel Core Ultra 200 non-K processors (65W TDP), scheduled for January next year.

Other leaks

It is not the first time that leaks have happened close to the launch date, when companies are more vulnerable precisely because they need to send products for retailers to have in stock.

In September, the final specifications of the Intel Core Ultra 200 “Arrow Lake” CPUs were leaked a month before launch. A week later, photos of the processors were leaked.

Last month, details of seven “non-K” Intel Core Ultra 200 CPUs also leaked. Possibly, they will only be launched in January, perhaps in conjunction with CES 2025.
