Asus announces Cobble, Case for SSD with water and dust protection

Asus revealed this week a new protection case for external use of SSDS M.2. Cobble has a portable design and has IP55 Certificate of water and dust resistance. The case offers USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 × 1 interface, supporting speeds of up to 10gbps-depending on the SSD installed on it, obviously.

The IP55 certificate indicates that ASUS Cobble protects against most of the dust and solid particles, and will also prevent large amounts of water from entering squirts. It does not protect against water immersion, however.

The case is compatible with SSDs M.2 in 2280, 2260 and 2242 formats. Interestingly, on its official website asus warns that drives with more than 4TB capacity “may not work”, indicating access the support page for more details.

Cobble measures 128.96 x 44.35 x 16.33mm, weighing just over 90g. It was announced in black and gray, and Asus expects its design to pass a “warm and natural” aesthetic. Speaking of warm, the case is made of aluminum and accompanies an Thermal PAD, which the manufacturer promises to help in “exceptional heat dissipation.”

Unfortunately, the company did not announce the product accompanied by its suggested price.

Cases for external use of SSDs are not so popular among hardware enthusiasts because they usually do not sacrifice performance in exchange for portability. Thus, products like Asus Cobble are more focused on everyday use of the PC, where data transport is more important than the speed to access them.
