ASRock has started publishing new BIOS updates for AM5 motherboards based on AMD AGESA Combo AM5 1.2.7.1. The firmware is appearing on the official support pages for several B650 and B850 models.

The changelog is short and includes mention of “support for future CPUs”. And, with CES 2026 approaching, there is a lot of speculation about what will be announced at the event. In the end, the expression is generally used when manufacturers are preparing boards for processors that have not yet been announced.

In the case of the AM5 socket, AGESA updates are usually released well before new commercial processors. AMD may also release mid-range desktop products, so partners tend to prepare firmware in advance.

ASRock also appears to have skipped a public release of version 1.2.7.0 and gone straight to 1.2.7.1. The timing also coincides with ongoing rumors about the X3D refresh, including a Ryzen 7 9850X3D and higher-tier variants.

X3D processors may require specific firmware handling, so early work on AGESA would be appropriate. At the same time, ASUS has already published beta BIOS updates for some X870 and X870E motherboards that migrate to AGESA 1.2.8.0.

And this suggests that the various manufacturers are preparing to support the same products.

For current ASRock users, version 1.2.7.1 is more about compatibility than day-to-day performance changes. Early firmware can also bring regressions, and beta versions present additional risks.

In other words, for those who have a stable system and plan to change the processor soon, waiting for later revisions is the safest option.

Rumors and Expectations

Rumor has it that AMD will announce the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Ryzen 9000G series at CES 2026, which according to the calendar is about 4 weeks away. AMD has not yet confirmed this information.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D has already appeared on AMD’s official website, confirming that it exists, but it has not been officially announced by the company with its specifications and prices. And, in early December, a leak revealed that it would have 120W TDP.

Afterwards, another leak, this time from a performance test, revealed that it was almost 5% ahead of the 9800X3D. And considering that both the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 7800X3D outsold all Intel CPUs on Amazon in October, there’s reason for enthusiasts to be eager for an official announcement at CES 2026.

ASRock models with the AM5 socket are available from Kabum at various prices. The most modest ones cost R$894.57 (B650 chipset) to R$1,902.51 (B850 chipset). There are also more high-end models for R$3,087.99 (Riptide X870), R$3,222.99 (Stell Legend X870) and R$4,845.99 (Taichi Lite X870E).
