Asgard impresses with Thor, the first CUDIMM DDR5 memory at 9600MT/s

Asgard has come out on top with its new Thor memory kit, the first CUDIMM DDR5 modules. Taking advantage of the latest technology, the components are capable of reaching the impressive speed of 9600MT/s, according to the manufacturer.

The CUDIMM standard has the same physical format as DIMM modules, but adds a “Clocked Unbuffered” to the acronym. The name indicates the presence of a CKD (Clock Driver) in the memory that improves stability at higher frequencies. This is why Asgard is now able to offer a module at 9600MT/s.

Thor memories outperform the highest standards currently available in DDR5, which are around 9200MT/s. As such, these components are prepared for the launch of future high-performance motherboards, especially Intel in the case of Asgard – since its modules use the XMP profile. The Z890 chipset will probably be needed to extract the best from these and even future models, since the manufacturer has already promised to break the 10,000MT/s barrier soon.

Asgard’s DDR5 CUDIMM modules feature CL44 timings. According to WCCFTech, this is the equivalent of a DDR5 memory running at 6400MT/s with CL30 timings, but with a wider bandwidth.

Asgard opts for a discreet look

While the new products are eye-catching for their performance, they are somewhat understated in appearance. The modules feature a heatsink that looks like a mostly smooth metal plate with the name Thor written on it. There are two color options, black and silver, which the manufacturer calls Polar Night Black and Lightning Silver, respectively.

The design may disappoint fans of customizable ARGB, but for those users XPG has an interesting option. How about modules with a heatsink that is basically 60% made of colored lights?
