Apus Medusa Point will be bigger than Strix Point, using New Socket FP10 [RUMOR]

Medusa Point generation apus should be slightly larger than current generation processors, Strix Point. This is what the leakage of transport documents indicates, revealing a slightly larger new socket, the FP10.

Components of the Strix Point generation, the Ryzen AI 300, use the FP8 format. AMD seems to bring a new generation of socket along with the Medusa Point, the FP10. According to the leak, this new fit mens 25 x 42.5mm, which makes it approximately 6% higher than the currently available FP8.

Once we are talking about notebook apus, the average user will hardly pay attention to the size of their product’s socket, but it is an interesting indicative of the changes brought by the new generation of processors.

According to the leaks and rumors we have so far, AMD will adopt a chiple design (CCD) to its new Apus, as it already does in its desktop processors. Thus, unlike the strix point that use a monolithic design of 4 + 8 Zen 5 centers, the medusa point should have a CCD with 12 Zen 6 necles and a separate I/O DIE.

The possible change in the socket to the new generation Medusa Point seems linked to the CCD design employed in the chips. Also, it is worth remembering that AMD should resort to a more modern TSMC process in their manufacture to 3NM, while the Strix Point had 4NM transistors.

Meanwhile, the integrated GPU should not have much news. We have already had more than one leak indicating that AMD will choose to maintain the RDNA 3.5 architecture in Medusa Point, while the latest RDNA 4 remains reserved for dedicated video cards.
