Apple remains determined to advance in the augmented and virtual reality market, even in the face of weak sales of its current headset, the Apple Vision Pro.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, the company is developing both a more affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro and a second-generation model. In addition, the tech giant is also exploring the concept of “smart glasses,” a new product category in this segment. Learn more details!

Apple Vision will gain second generation and cheaper version

According to Bloomberg, Apple is planning to launch two new devices in the coming years. The first is a second-generation version of the Apple Vision Pro, which is expected to bring improvements over the current model.

The second, and perhaps most anticipated, is a cheaper version of the headset, which could be simply called “Apple Vision.” This more affordable version could hit the market as early as 2025, offering consumers a more affordable alternative to the pricey Apple Vision Pro.

Apple also bets on smart glasses

In addition to developing new headsets, Apple is also investing in a completely new category: “smart glasses.” The new product will be “inspired” by Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, which combine style and technology and can be purchased starting at US$ 329 in the United States.

In this case, the device is still being referred to simply as “Apple Glass,” and that may or may not be the final name. Many details are still speculation, but the report suggests that the development of this product is currently facing significant technical challenges, which could further delay its launch.

According to the document, the initial idea was to create a glasses device that would offer a complete augmented reality experience. However, technical difficulties encountered led Apple to postpone the project indefinitely.

This means that while new Apple Vision headsets could be coming soon, Apple Glass could still be years away.

Apple Vision Cost Reduction and Technical Improvements

One of the big unknowns surrounding the new, cheaper “Apple Vision” is how Apple plans to reduce production costs to make it accessible to a wider audience.

Reporter Mark Gurman, who released the report, believes that the price of this new device should be around $1,500 to attract more buyers, which is a significant improvement compared to the $3,500 price tag of the current model on the market.

One possible solution to reduce costs is to use lighter and cheaper materials to manufacture the headset. The weight of the Apple Vision Pro has been a major criticism from consumers, along with its high price. By using lighter materials, Apple could not only reduce the cost, but also improve the comfort of the device, making it more appealing to users.

Some rumors also point to changes in the internal screens, with a lower quality finish to reduce these costs. Apparently, the cheaper version of the Vision Pro will keep the Apple Silicon series processor, but will have a more limited set of sensors and cameras, something that should not compromise the accuracy of spatial recognition.
