A Apple eco will implement a new strategy for its streaming platform, the Apple TV+. The company will drastically cut the amount invested in productions, as slow growth in its subscriber base has not justified continuing to raise the figures for content production. According to Bloombergthe platform represents 0.2% of the monthly television audience in the US, while Netflix, the leader in the video streaming market, achieves this same percentage in just one day.
Undeniably, Apple TV+ has been accumulating good results in terms of what is offered in the catalog. Productions such as Breaking off e Ted Lasso are praised by the public and critics, but the huge investments that the company makes to produce these materials have not resulted in significant increases in the number of subscribers. The platform tries in several ways to increase the public’s knowledge of the service, regularly offering promotions that guarantee a few months of free use.
Apple TV+’s business model is quite different from that of the major platforms. Instead of a vast catalog, Apple’s service focuses on a small number of options, mostly focused on original productions that tend to please audiences. However, the variety factor is a factor that can weigh heavily on many people who are deciding whether or not to spend money on a streaming service.
With this current outlook, Apple must drastically cut production costs. Since the end of 2019, when the service was launched, Apple has already spent $20 billion on the production of original films and series.
Apple TV+ grows slowly in Brazil
According to a survey by the JustWatch platform, Apple TV+ has been increasing its market share in Brazil, but growth is very slow. Among the interactions of JustWatch users, Apple would be responsible for 7% of market share in Brazil. The leader is Netflix, responsible for 26% (a drop of 1% compared to the previous measurement). Next comes Prime Video (18%) and Disney+ (14%).
The monthly fee for Apple TV+ costs R$21.90/month.
