- The M5 chip has a CPU with up to 10 cores, a GPU with a new 10-core architecture and memory bandwidth of up to 153 MB/s.
- The iPad Pro and MacBook Pro maintain the previous design, but have improvements in AI performance, storage and battery life.
Apple announced, this Wednesday (15/10), the launch of its new M5 chip, which will make its debut in the iPad Pro (with prices starting at R$12,499) and the 14-inch MacBook Pro (prices starting at R$19,999). The Vision Pro headset, which is not officially sold in Brazil, also gained an updated version with the component.
Apple M5
The fifth generation of Apple’s M line chips, the M5 is manufactured using a 3 nm lithography process and focuses on artificial intelligence and graphics.
The GPU has a new architecture with ten cores and a neural accelerator in each of them. According to the company, this allows for up to four times better performance than the M4 in AI tasks aimed at the GPU.

The Neural Engine (the name Apple gives to its NPU) continues with 16 cores and has had improvements, but the company did not specify the performance jump in numbers. The promise is that Apple Intelligence tasks, like Image Playground, will become faster.
In terms of CPU, the M5 offers up to ten cores, six for efficiency and up to four for performance. According to Apple, performance is 15% faster than the M4. Furthermore, the company claims that the chip has the fastest CPU core in the world.
Finally, memory bandwidth has been increased to up to 153 MB/s, which is 30% more than the M4 and more than double the M1. The M5 supports up to 32GB of RAM.
iPad Pro M5
The iPad Pro is one of the first Apple products to receive the M5. The design is the same as the M4 model, with 11 and 13 inch options, and the new features are all on the inside of the device.
Apple says the new version of the tablet has 3.5x better AI performance than last year’s model. Memory read and write speeds have also increased, and the notebook supports fast charging, capable of reaching 50% battery in around 30 minutes.

In addition to the M5, the iPad Pro received other chips, such as the C1X modem for mobile data and the N1 chip for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread protocol.
In Brazil, prices start at R$ 12,499 (11-inch version, Wi-Fi, 9-core CPU, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage) and go up to R$ 31,599 (13-inch version with nano-texture glass, Wi-Fi + Cellular, 10-core CPU, 16 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage). Sales have not yet started.
MacBook Pro 14 M5
Another device to receive the M5 in this first wave is the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Just like the iPad, the design is the same as the interior generation, with new features only in technical specifications.

Among the M5’s improvements are 1.6x faster graphics performance and up to 1.6x higher frame rate in games. Storage has also become faster, and the battery now lasts up to 24 hours, according to the company. Another change is the 4 TB storage option, which was previously restricted to notebooks with the M4 Pro.
In Brazil, prices for the MacBook Pro 14 M5 start at R$19,990 (16 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage) and can reach R$40,999, excluding accessories and additional software. (32 GB RAM, 4 TB storage and nano-texture screen).
