Apple has officially announced that its new artificial intelligence platform, called Apple Intelligence, will be released next month, along with the iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates. Promising to transform the user experience on devices such as iPhones, iPads and MacBooks, the new feature is restricted to the company’s latest devices, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and the future iPhone 16, as well as MacBooks and iPads equipped with M-series chips.

Unfortunately, for Portuguese-speaking users, there is some disappointing news: Apple Intelligence will not have support in Portuguese any time soon, as this language is not on the list of languages that will receive support for AI next year.

Initial release restricted to English

The first phase of Apple Intelligence’s rollout will be limited to English, specifically American English. In December, the platform will expand to include other variants of English, such as those spoken in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. As for other languages, Apple has only confirmed support for Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish, which are scheduled to arrive next year.

Unfortunately, Portuguese was not mentioned in the list of languages that will gain support in 2025, which means that Portuguese speakers, both in Brazil and Portugal, will have to wait longer to use Apple’s AI in their native language.

Key features of Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence

Despite the language restrictions, Apple Intelligence’s features have caught the attention of the company’s users and promise to make everyday life easier in a number of ways. Highlights include:

  • Writing Tools: Writing tools that can rewrite, revise, and summarize text in apps like Mail, Notes, Pages, and even third-party apps.
  • Memories: A feature that automatically creates movies in the Photos app based on the user’s description of the images they want.
  • Natural Language Search: You can search for specific photos and videos in your gallery simply by describing them with common phrases, such as “photos of a sunset” or “videos from our last trip.”
  • Clean Up: Tool that allows you to quickly remove background objects in photos, without compromising image quality.

Other innovations in audio and focus

Apple Intelligence also provides the ability to record, transcribe, and summarize audio in the Notes app and during phone calls. For example, after recording a call, Apple’s AI automatically generates a summary of the content discussed.

Additionally, the “Reduce Interruptions” focus feature promises to be useful for those seeking greater productivity, filtering notifications to display only those that require immediate attention. In the email app, the Priority Messages feature will bring urgent messages to the top of the inbox based on the content of the emails.

More natural Siri and future features

Apple Intelligence

Another highlight is the integration of Apple Intelligence with Siri, which will become more intelligent and natural. The voice assistant will be able to better understand questions, even if the user stutters or switches between text and voice. AI will also allow Siri to follow the user’s reasoning more fluidly.

In the coming months, Apple promises to release even more AI features. Among them, a feature that can generate images from the context provided by the user and another that will create personalized emojis — or “Genmoji” — based on a typed description.
