Antec launches 850W SFX power supply with 80 Plus Gold seal

Antec announced this week its new SF850X power supply. As the name suggests, this is an SFX component with a capacity of 850W. In other words, it is a more compact size than a traditional ATX PSU, but still has a considerable capacity.

According to its manufacturer, a major highlight of the power supply is its energy efficiency. With the 80 Plus Gold seal, Antec promises up to 92% efficiency in “typical loads”. It is worth remembering that less energy waste also means less heating, causing a positive impact on the entire system.

The SF850X is completely modular and comes with flat black cables. In addition, Antec guarantees silent operation with adequate cooling, thanks to the 92mm fan that features FDB (fluid dynamic bearing).

Finally, the manufacturer highlights some of the protections that its new source offers:

• Overcurrent Protection (OCP)
• Overvoltage Protection (OVP)
• Undervoltage Protection (UVP)
• Short Circuit Protection (SCP)
• Over Temperature Protection (OTP)

Antec says its SF850X power supply is now on sale at partner stores worldwide, but has not released an official price for the product.

The 80 Plus seal has been used for decades (since 2004) to indicate when a source has an energy efficiency rating of over 80%. Its popularity is its main advantage, as most consumers immediately recognize the emblem and its meaning.

This is why many companies like Antec still choose the 80 Plus to promote their power supplies. However, some manufacturers have begun to question the accuracy of the test results to obtain this type of seal.

As a result, some brands have started to look for alternatives to the traditional 80 Plus. Corsair, for example, announced in early August that it would start using Cybenetics certification, with the promise of offering more complete and accurate information for its sources.
