AMD may be preparing to launch its X870 AM5 motherboards two months after the arrival of the Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” processors. According to information presented by WCCFTECH, the manufacturer may bring the new models on September 30, 2024.
That they wouldn’t arrive simultaneously is no longer news, however there was no set date for the new motherboard models. This is not a problem, considering that the next generation of desktop CPUs remains compatible with the “600” line. However, their full potential will only be seen a few months later.
One of the main differences between the 600 series and AMD X870 AM5 motherboards is in terms of connectivity. The new hardware is expected to feature USB4 connections and faster support for AMD EXPO (memory overclocking profile).
In addition to the DDR5 EXPO memory kits also being launched at some point in the second half of the year, the information meets rumors that the Ryzen 9000X3D processors (Zen5 with 3D V-Cache) will be launched in September. In other words, it is possible that the new motherboards aim to be used in conjunction with the new X3D CPUs.
Another factor that indicates our distance in relation to the launch of AMD X870 motherboards is the few announcements related to the line. During Computex 2024, we saw few manufacturers present AM5 models – such as Biostar, Gigabyte and MSI.

AMD X870 and B850/B840 motherboards
While AMD continues to keep the launch of the X870 motherboards under wraps, it is notable that nothing has been said or mentioned about the B850 and B840 models either.
Taking into account that several manufacturers still have 600 models in stock and that the B650 continues to be the most popular, it is possible that this distance will also help to sell what is available on the market before the arrival of its next generation.
For now, AMD’s supposed calendar includes the following notes for 2024:
- July 15: launch of Ryzen AI 300 CPUs (mobile);
- July 31: launch of Ryzen 9000 CPUs (desktop);
- September 30: launch of X870 motherboards;
- 2nd semester: Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs Launch
