AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme will have 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs, according to updated rumors

The Ryzen Z2 Extreme, the processor that will top the next generation of AMD laptop CPUs, will actually have 16 CUs in the end. At least that’s what a well-known “leaker” in the hardware world says, correcting his own previous statement that the component would use 12 Compute Units.

We always emphasize the importance of reading rumors and leaks with a certain amount of skepticism, and this time is no different. So, it appears that a mistake was made in the first release of Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, when it stated that the entire Ryzen Z2 line would use 12 CUs. However, each CPU would have a different generation of RDNA.

A few hours later, however, Golden Pig corrected himself. He reiterates that there are three SKUs, each using a different version of the architecture, this has not changed. However, according to your post, the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is at the top with 16 CUs, while the others use 12.

The confusion allegedly occurred because AMD was going to call the Ryzen Z2 Extreme the Z2 Extreme X, but ended up deciding to abandon the extra “X” in the name. Golden Pig had understood that this would be a fourth component that was cancelled.

In its correction post, Golden Pig offers some more details about the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, confirming previous rumors about the CPU. According to the insider, the processor will in fact come with 8 cores – three Zen 5 and five Zen 5c. Additionally, he claims that the CPU will feature 16MB of L3 cache.
