Confirming rumors about the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU, a leaked shipping manifest shows that the upcoming processor for portable gaming devices will have an 8-core configuration – possibly 3 Zen5 + 5 Zen5C.

The leaked document by “@Olrak29_” shows that the “Z2X28W” chip with an ID of “100-000001684” will hit the market with a TDP of 28W – which also fits with the rumors that its power consumption would be between 9 and 30W. Apparently, this is a sample that is being sent to India and may have changes before its final version.

Reports suggest that the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU will feature hyperthreading and a 16MB cache, in addition to the integrated GPU based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture – featuring 12 computational units, similar to what is seen in the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

Although not much official information has been released, AMD’s senior vice president – Jack Hyunh – has already confirmed that the line of processors will not only bring leaps in the performance of gaming laptops, but will also serve to improve battery consumption, one of the biggest complaints from the public regarding the devices.

The arrival of the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU

It’s worth noting that AMD hasn’t released any new APUs for the mobile market since the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. The Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” line will be included in notebooks and some mini-PC models, but nothing has been announced regarding the latest gaming consoles.

While the ASUS ROG Ally X keeps the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, ZOTAC decided to go with chips based on the Zen4 architecture for its new ZONE. In addition to them, MSI chose Intel Lunar Lake processors for its Claw 8 AI+.
