Hardware leaker HXL stated on his X profile, formerly Twitter, that there will be no frequency reduction for AMD Ryzen R9 9000X3D CPUs. The news is not surprising, given that the new series will not feature dual CCDs with 3D V-Cache.

Instead, one of the CCDs will prioritize high frequency, while the other will include 64MB of 3D V-Cache. The configuration is similar to the previous generation series.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D was launched at a lower frequency compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X3D despite featuring a higher TDP. However, the dual-CCD series, known as Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D, should not have the same limitation.

For your part, motherboard makers started introducing their ‘X3D Turbo’ modes even before the launch of the 8-core 9800X3D processor. These companies have already confirmed that the technology essentially disables a CCD and turns off SMT.

Single and Multithreaded Performance

In another post, user HXL also suggested that the Single and multithreaded performance should match that of the Ryzen 9 9950X.

It is worth noting that the Ryzen 9 7000X3D series was also not affected by lower frequencies. These CPUs offered the same maximum frequency as their non-X3D counterparts, allowing users to perform demanding single-threaded tasks on high-frequency CCD.

As the leaks are confirmed, they signal that the Ryzen 9 X3D models are aimed at different users, content creators who may play from time to time, and vice versa.

Other information

With the launch of Ryzen 9000 CPUs in July, there wasn’t much information available for the X3D versions, but it was already speculated that they would be presented by the end of the year or during CES 2025. The leak close to the event seems to suggest this.

Another information already obtained is that AMD will release full overclocking support for Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs. In August, it was confirmed that AMD Ryzen 9000X3D processors would be compatible with X870 and X870E motherboards. Both models were launched in the same month.

In October, a report suggested that the Ryzen 9000X3D’s gaming performance could be disappointing. However, the biggest question would be whether the performance gain offsets the acquisition cost, which will only be confirmed with the launch of the new processors.
