Since the introduction of Ryzen processors in 2017, AMD has been trying to gain market share against Intel. In South Korea, for example, the latest survey shows that Intel has seen a drop in adoption equivalent to the rise achieved by AMD.
In June, Intel fell by more than 10%, roughly the same level of gains as AMD in the South Korean market. Looking back, specifically in mid-to-early 2023, the blue side held almost 60% of the market, with just over 40% going to Ryzen.
Proportionally, Intel Core processors began to decline in April last year, in the same amount as AMD Ryzen’s growth. Things really change in August 2023, when Intel falls by around 10%, an amount similar, again, to AMD’s growth.
As you can see in the graph, this equivalence in the rise and fall of companies remains until the end of the survey, which goes until June of this year. This happens because of the duopoly in the processor market. If you leave one, you have to go to the other, since it is the only option.
The final result shows AMD now has over 55% of the CPU market share in South Korea, with Intel holding less than 45%, a smaller lead than when Intel Core was in the lead last year.
Intel’s current situation with its 13th and 14th generation Raptor Lake processors is nothing new. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine that this would be a factor that contributed to the drop in adoption of the company’s processors in South Korea.
The most recent update on this situation said that Intel had extended the warranty for affected processors from these generations, in addition to the exchange, which happens in different ways depending on how the user acquired the processor, whether it was purchased in a store, with a PC assembled by a store or OEM.
This survey from South Korea refers to the period before the launch of AMD Ryzen 9000, which happened now in August. Benchmarks around the world, including ours, show that Zen 5 CPUs deliver performance below expectations. BIOS modifications and a possible change in the settings of these processors can be solutions to alleviate this issue.
And you, did you use Intel Core and switch to AMD Ryzen or vice versa recently? Comment below.
