The launch of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APU is close and the first benchmarks of the mobile processor have leaked – showing the leaps it brings in CPU and GPU with Zen5 architecture and RDNA 3.5 cores.

The chip will have 12 cores and 24 threads, 4 of which are produced in the Zen5 structure and the remaining 8 in Zen5C. Its boost clock reaches 5.1 GHz and the APU has 36 MB of cache (24 MB L3 + 12 MB L2). Its iGPU is the Radeon 890M, with 1,024 cores and 16 Compute Units.

Compared to the Ryzen 9 8945HS processor, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APU has 50% more cores/threads; 33.3% more compute units and 3.12 times greater NPU performance – which represents a huge leap, by the way.

Operating system benchmarks of AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU

The leak of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APU benchmarks indicates that a sampling version was used – considering that its base clock was the same as 2.0 GHz, but its maximum boost reached 4.2 GHz, which is a result below the maximum promised by the manufacturer in the final product.

In terms of numbers, in Geekbench 5 the processor achieved 1,847 points in single-core tests and 14,316 points in multi-core. In Geekbench 6, the chip reaches 2,544 points in single-core, with 14,158 points in multi-core tests. In OpenCL, the iGPU Radeon 780M (RDNA 3.5) achieved 41,995 points.

Again compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS APU, manufactured in the Zen4 architecture and the main product of the Hawk Point line, the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” achieved 7% more results in single-core, 20% in multi-core. core and had a 40% gain in graphics tests (reaching GPUs like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050).

It is important to remember that the performance published in the benchmarks is related to the sampling version of the processor. Its performance results in the final version are expected to be even greater – as it can reach 5.1 GHz.

Energy issues

Another aspect that should be noted is that the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APU will follow the molds that will accompany the entire line – where the TDP will be decided by the manufacturer working with the chip.

Considering that the minimum is 15W and the maximum is 54W, it is difficult to determine what TDP the benchmark was tested at. The Ryzen 9 8945HS has a TDP of 45W, while the new APU could have been run at 15W or 20W – which made the results even more impressive. However, these are hypotheses and it is worth waiting for AMD’s announcement.

AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APUs will begin shipping to manufacturers in July 2024 and are expected to be available to the public in the last quarter of this year.
