AMD Ryzen 9000 processors will hit the global market in a few days, but some retailers are already selling some of the SKUs. That’s why Italian YouTuber SaddyTech was able to get his hands on one Ryzen 9 9900X ahead of time and show that This CPU lags behind the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in games.

This clash against the so-called king of gaming is very close in specific games and resolutions. But, for the most part, the new processor lags considerably behind.

Let’s take an example of a competitive game, Call of Duty: Warzone 2. In it, there is a technical tie, especially in the FPS averages. Now Alan Wake 2 representing the heavy single-player games, there is another technical tie in the different resolutions.

However, there are situations where the Ryzen 7 7800X3D delivers up to 17 FPS more on average, as in the case of Cities: Skylines 2. This difference can be even greater in Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us Part I in favor of the king of games.

In Fortnite, another competitive game, the Ryzen 9 9900X lags far behind, especially at 1080p, as at other resolutions the limiter is the video card.

Ryzen 9 9900X is efficient and cooler

According to the person responsible for the tests, the Zen 5 processor had a maximum peak consumption of 111W and an average of 102W while running games. The maximum temperature reached was 66 degrees, a good result that reflects AMD’s promise to deliver more performance while consuming less and, consequently, heating up less.

Both have 120w TDP, but it’s worth remembering that there is a difference of 4 cores (and 8 threads) between them, in addition to the higher clocks of AMD’s next top-of-the-line CPU.

The Ryzen 9 9900X is the second most powerful CPU in AMD’s new Zen 5-based lineup, behind only the Ryzen 9 9950X. It is a 12-core, 24-thread processor, operating between 4.4 and 5.6 GHz, 200 and 600 MHz, respectively, more than the Zen 4 CPU with 3D V-Cache technology.

The new processor even has more L1 (960 KB) and L2 (12 MB) cache memory compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and its 512 KB and 8 MB, respectively. But the big difference is in the L3 cache which, because of memory stacking, is 96 MB versus the 64 MB of the Zen 5 CPU.

The Ryzen 9 9900X and the other processors in this lineup will arrive in stores on July 31st.
