While AMD promoted its new Ryzen 9 9950X3D at CES 2025, the company was also quietly adding one more option at the other “end” of its current generation of processors. The Ryzen 5 9600, without the X, is now official and already has a page on the company’s website.
Unfortunately, the listing on the website does not include a price or release date for the processor, but we know that it appears as the new, more affordable Ryzen 9000 option, below the 9600X.
As expected, the Ryzen 5 9600 has 6 cores, with 12 threads. There are 32MB of L3 cache with a TDP of 65W. In other words, the same specifications as the Ryzen 5 9600X. As usual, the X in the name only indicates a clock difference. While the 9600X offers 3.9GHz base clock and up to 5.4GHz boost, the 9600X comes with 3.8GHz and up to 5.2GHz, respectively.
What’s interesting is that all Ryzen 9000s are unlocked for overclocking, which offers more potential for non-X models as well.
Ryzen 5 9600 accompanies Wraith Stealth as stock cooler
A new feature that draws attention to the Ryzen 5 9600 is the presence of the Wraith Stealth cooler in the box.
No other processor in the current Ryzen line comes with a stock cooler, so the inclusion of the component will be a good attraction for the 9600 segment. After all, those who opt for an entry-level processor are looking to save money, so it will be interesting not to have to invest more for one cooler too.

While the Ryzen 5 9600 didn’t appear on the main stage at CES 2025, several AMD partners are showing off their B840 and B850 cards at the show. Thus, from the end of this month, users will have much more accessible options to enter the Zen 5 generation with a complete setup.
If someone wants to include an AMD graphics card, they will also have to continue waiting for more details on the Radeon 9000 generation.
