AMD is expected to continue tinkering with its Zen 3-based processor lineup. According to filings with the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission), a Ryzen 5 5500X3D is comingbut details about when and its settings are still unknown.

Not everything that appears registered with the EEC ends up reaching the market. But, if this is the case, we are talking about the fourth member of the Ryzen 5000 series with 3D V-Cache technology and, probably, the one with the smallest configuration among them.

In fact, we even have a possible configuration for this SKU, according to a rumor from November last year. The unofficial information said that the Ryzen 5 5500X3D would have the same amount of cache memory as the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, which is 96 MB. The CPU would maintain the series’ 6 cores and 12 threads and clocks of 3.6 to 4.0 GHz, a little less than the base version.

Ryzen 5 5500X3D offered good level of performance

According to Hardware Unboxed tests with the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, a CPU that has not reached all markets, the current entry-level SKU with AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology delivers performance similar to its stronger siblings, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 5800X3D.

Compared to its base version, the popular Ryzen 5 5600X, the X3D version delivers up to 50 FPS more in games, a huge performance boost. Therefore, if the Ryzen 5 5500X3D is real, it would bring the technology’s performance boost to a cheaper segment, even though it costs more than the base version.

AMD

It would be a good addition to the AMD Ryzen 5000X3D lineup, as it would be the entry-level model with the technology and, consequently, the most affordable. That is, of course, if it is not restricted to certain markets, or even arrives exclusively for specific segments, such as OEM PCs, for example.

And AMD 3D V-Cache technology

3D V-Cache is a solution to the limited space within the CPU die, enabling larger amounts of cache in the same area of the processor. It consists of stacking new silicon with large amounts of memory on the processor die, communicating with the processor cores.

The result is that this “second floor” makes possible an impressive 96MB of L3 cache, the 32MB already present in the original topology plus 64MB stacked above, accessible with high bandwidth and very low latency by the processor cores.

With so much space, the number of times that data that the processor needed to be available in the cache increases, and consequently, more performance. One of the scenarios with the greatest potential for gain is quite common to the Adrena audience: games.

There is no estimate for the arrival of the possible Ryzen 5 5500X3D so far.
